BROCHURE OVERVIEW

Morris-Shea, a leading deep foundation contractor, installed 7033 DeWaal Drilled Displacement Piles as deep foundations for all major structures at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley. The Mobile, Alabama center assembles and paints Airbus A220 and A320 aircraft.

Conventional augercast piles were initially specified for the first aircraft assembly building’s deep foundation at the job site, but the Morris-Shea team presented DeWaal pile as a Value Engineered Alternate. The DeWaal Pile System proved successful in reducing project expense and expedited construction scheduling. This patented pile was later specified for all deep foundations at the Airbus campus.

In addition to DeWaal pile installations, Morris-Shea utilized PZC-18 sheet piling in the design and construction of cofferdams for individual footings and parallel walls for tunnels at the Airbus facility.

SITE TESTING

Morris-Shea successfully drilled test piles in the silty and clayey sands at the Airbus job site that met or exceeded project-specific load criteria. In addition to a comprehensive static load testing program, Morris-Shea performed supplementary site investigations with cone penetration testing (CPT). DeWaal Drilled Displacement Piles were deemed ideal for installation in the soil profiles found at the new Airbus aircraft assembly facility job site
