MORRIS-SHEA PROJECT COMPONENTS:
CONTINUOUS FLIGHT AUGER (CFA) PILES
CFA piles: 24” and 31.5” diameters
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Morris-Shea, an industry-leading deep foundation contractor based in Birmingham, Alabama, installed continuous flight auger (CFA) piles at the job site of VERVE, a new apartment living facility near the university campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Morris-Shea construction team worked in the tight confines of an urban job site that restricted positioning of heavy equipment and minimized installation access.
PILE SYSTEM INSTALLATION
Morris-Shea construction professionals installed CFA piles with a high-powered, multi-functional Fundex F3500 foundation drill rig. The piles were 24 inches and 31.5 inches in diameter. A total of 5 different pile reinforcing cages were utilized. Pile installation depths ranged between approximately 15 feet and 62 feet. The Morris-Shea team worked from multiple elevations across the site, with half of the piles beginning on a higher elevation above a support of excavation (SOE) wall.
