DEEP FOUNDATIONS AND COFFERDAMS
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The 96 acre Chesapeake Bay plant and port site is ideal for construction of the largest undersea power cable manufacturing facility in the US. The immense size of the plant at this bay side location utilized approximately 3300 DeWaal piles as a value engineered alternate for the originally specified deep foundation. Morris-Shea also installed nearly 400 CFA piles and constructed two large sheet pile cofferdams.
DEEP FOUNDATION
Morris-Shea installed deep foundations and internally braced sheet piling for the construction of a large cable manufacturing facility near Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay. The Birmingham, Alabama-based geotechnical contractor utilized six high powered drill rigs and a fleet of additional equipment to construct two sheet pile cofferdams, and drill more than 3,500 DeWaal and CFA pile types as deep foundations.
